The Terms Used In Internet Marketing

Click Through(s)

A click through is the single most important action an Internet users does. While she is searching the Internet or reading her email the site/sites she clicks onto are the ones she will spend with. The Click Through is the action that triggers all others.

Click Through Rate

Click Through Rate or CTR for short is the number of click throughs' against the number of impressions (advertising content views). Therefore the click through rate is

CTR = Click Throughs ÷ Impressions

e.g. If our advert was shown 1,000 times and we received 150 clicks our click through rate would be 15%
15% = 150 ÷ 1,000

Impressions

Impressions is the number of times a piece of commercial advertising content has been viewed. It can be the number of times a pay per click advert has been displayed, the number of times a banner advert has been shown or the number of emails delivered.
