How We Work
Our web design is structured to ensure you get what you want from your new website as quickly and efficiently as possible. This section is based on our BrochureWeb and BrochureWeb Plus services.
Please visit our sections on LeadGenerationWeb or CommerceWeb if you are interested in these services.
1. Your journey will start by speaking with a web design representative, they will work with you to find the best BrochureWeb package for you and will construct a work order which you will then be able to approve. At this stage your first instalment* will be payable and once received work will begin.
* Payment instalment will depend on the package you have chosen and in some cases, where extra services are being purchased, the value of the work order. Please speak with a web design representative for more information.
2. A web design consultant will contact you at a convenient time to discuss your project and devise a page and navigation strategy for you. This time will also be used to define the essence of your new website. Our web design consultant will also discuss imagery, photos, icons and logos with you and will ask you to provide us with all of these assets. If you have added image sourcing or other asset development/design, these will also be discussed during this conversation.
Design Concept
3. The design concept is a critical phase and produces a visual representation of your website. To all intents and purposes it will be an image of what the page(s) will look like. The main focus in this phase is to get the ethos and notion of your new website's design correct.
The design is non-functional, that is to say that it has no links and no interactivity, its main job is to highlight the main facets of the web page(s) required. (Click examples below to view)
Your selected web design package will define the number of design concepts included. Further design concepts can be added as and when required the price of which will be detailed in your work order.
Each design concept can be tweaked to fit your requirements. These modifications allow you to switch page elements around, change fonts and colours but are not complete redesigns. Each design concept will enjoy a maximum of one hour’s worth of design changes. Thereafter a further design concept can be purchased. Alternatively our standard hourly design rate can be applied if the amount of change doesn’t justify a completely new design concept. Please note that these rules are not written in stone since design is notoriously subjective and personal. We have tried to standardise our pricing but in practice we tend to cost this kind of work on a case by case basis.
4. Once your design concept has been accepted by you, the page elements will be broken out into HTML/CSS which is the code Internet web browsers understand. The HTML/CSS construction will be done for all uniquely designed pages within your website. There are normally 2 pages created, Home page and General Content page. However the number of pages created will depend on your specific circumstances, please refer to your work order for further page details.
Integration
5. Once the HTML/CSS construction is finished we will begin the integration phase of the project. This phase makes the pages functional and configures the pages to work within the content management system (if being used).
Any custom behaviour of your website is done at this stage e.g. feedback forms and calls to action like “Call Me Back”, document downloads, logins and security configuration.
If your website is supplying you with leads and you are using our Lead Capture and Opportunity Management service, we will also setup and configure the contact and customer relationship services in this stage.
Testing
Testing of a website is critical to its success and this is an area many, many websites fail on. Testing is done in three main blocks and for the following reasons:
- Is the website compatible with major web browsers?
- How reliable is the website when under pressure?
- Is the website secure and will it prevent undesirable attacks?
Compatibility
6. Your work order will describe the browsers your website will be tested in. (These can be extended if required)
Our tests will ensure that your website renders itself correctly in these browsers. We will also check any scripts or other functions that may not be cross browser compatible. If we find an incompatibility, we will develop a solution to the problem or ensure that the functionality or design is such that it degrades gracefully in the offending browser.
Reliability
7. How reliable is the website when under pressure? We run stress tests on the website to ensure it responds reliably to 100's of concurrent (at the same time) connections.
Robust websites are critical to their success. Websites that error too easily or simply don’t work reduce your business's credibility and lose sales. Our system tests ensure that any custom functionality such as feedback forms, asset downloads (document downloads), logins, purchase systems, email verification etc. function reliably and in all target browsers specified.
Security
8. As a business owner/manager you are responsible for the security of your website’s visitors’ information. We run hack tests on all risk areas of your new website to ensure they are secure and we put measures in place to make hacking your website harder.
Go Live and Deployment
9. The final phase of your project is to make your website live. This is called deployment and it involves migrating all pages and software required to run your website onto a live web server in our hosting environment or a hosting environment of your choice.
10. Once done we will switch your domain to connect to your new website (if we are managing your domain) or provide you with instructions on doing this yourself.
Once this is done and your website is running in the live environment we re-run a subset of tests to ensure the website is fully functional.
At this point your web design and development project will be closed and any outstanding payments will be invoiced.
Please refer to your work order for warranty and support information.
